Slavery and our Founding Fathers
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Corinthians 3:17
The earth is advancing day by day. New technology, new ideas, new people. Yet instead of focusing on the good we all focus on the bad . Washington gave all victory to God , lead this nation to victory, and help set up the foundation of the nation we have today. Yet we all just look at the fact that he was a slave owner . I’m not saying slavery wasn’t a bad thing, it was . As a descendant I see that even when they were set free that they struggled with Jim Crow laws which made it hard for them to even afford shoes for their feet.
From Congo, to Puerto Rico, to New York and Florida. No matter where they were they still faced trials . The debt, the deaths, and the harsh deeds of others lead them to all to struggle into my father , mixed with black and white, was gifted shoes before even his dad was. The reality of this is that my father is only 55 years old. Meaning that the impact of slavery lasted until then for my family . Racism is real and the consequences of slavery has still left an impact to many even today. Yet, we see that also our sins are real. The consequences of our mistakes still impact us today. Yet how unfair would it be for one to look upon all we did in life, and judge us only for that mistake. We focus so much on how Washington owned slaves that instead of fixing the system to help those impacted, we waste our money taking down statues instead. People of this nation if even Jesus didn’t judge Mary and stone her than who are we to judge a person by their mistakes. Did Washington not make up for it ? Did he not treat his slaves like servants and set them free? Did he not provide shelter and a life for them?
That’s not the case for all. I know that. I know that Thomas Jefferson raped, abused, and mistreated his slaves over and over again. For that he is my enemy. And as hard as it may be , we are called to love our enemies. Jefferson was a horrible person. I will not deny that. Yet he was a talented politician. And I can’t deny that either Our nation wouldn’t have been this way with our him. First secretary of state, 2nd Vice President, 3rd President. Even with the one who threaten my life , I can not deny their talents as they have become a successful dancer! Is it fair , no! But can I deny their talent either ?
Life on earth is not fair , yet justice will be served for them but no from me but from God. Justice has been served for those who see others as animals and not as humans. Whether it was here on earth or in hell we can not be ungrateful, wasting our time either covering up what our founding father did or breaking their nation down! In a few years mindsets will change and our descendants will see us as evil. If someone creates the cure for cancer yet is racist, would we still not use the cure ? So who are we to judge, and who are we to be prideful to the point of death. In the same way we face an emotional death when we exhaust ourselves over the pointless process of seeing someone for only their greatest flaws.
