Hearing Hearts Haiti
But Jesus called them to Him and said,” Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them: for such is the kingdom of God. Luke 18:16
"Susie and I grew up in an unhealthy atmosphere. Our father was abusive physically, mentally, and sexually. Because of his actions, we were put into the foster care systems for short time. Our mother, who was also a victim, did everything in her power to bring us back together as a family. And thank God, she did. Both of us knew at a very young age that adoption was a very high possibility in our lives. Growing up we prayed for God to show us how we could serve him and what adoption would look like for us. I started praying specifically about adoption and felt led by God to adopt a deaf child. Without knowing anyone who was deaf or anything about the deaf community, I signed up to take a American Sign Language (ASL) classes at a local community college. Then God started to move. . .
In January 2010, Haiti was hit with a devastating earthquake. Haiti is an extremely poor country whose core was completely shaken. There was tons of physical damage along and many lives were lost. Our church put together a disaster relief missions trip that following April. We knew right away God was calling us on this trip. It was our first time leaving the country. We were excited to serve God and went without any expectations other than to serve and spread the love of Jesus. While on this trip, we met a young deaf girl who did the missionaries laundry. She and I were beyond excited to be able to communicate. The more we got to know each other, the more I began to see a huge need in the deaf community.
After Susie and I were both back in the states, we felt a longing to be back with our Haitian brothers and sisters. We both kept in contact with our deaf friends who began intoducing us to other deaf friends. we began making trips back to Haiti yearly, then every six months. I was spending weeks to months at a time in Haiti serving the deaf community. During our trips we met a local name Andrecene who began to help us, encouraging and guiding us. He was able to find a location for us to start working with the deaf community. We also had a lot of support from the people back home and through all the challenges we were able to start Hearing Hearts Haiti.
We prayed from the beginning for God to show us how He wanted us to serve Him. In short time we began teaching the deaf community from all around the area and sharing the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus." -Angie Founder and Director
