1 John Chapter 2
Finding freedom from sin <3
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One”
1 John 2:1
“If we claim to have fellowship with him while we are walking in the darkness, we are lying and not living out the truth. But if we are walking in the light, as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of his Son Yeshua purifies us from all sin.”
1 Yochanan (1 Jo) 1:6-7 CJB
You can proclaim you have fellowship with Him and you can read His words yet you may live just as a Pharisee. They memorized scripture and spent more time in the temple than others, yet they did not have fellowship with Him. We must walk in accordance to what He says. We must live out the word of God.
The first step in doing this is confessing our sins. Confessing is agreeing with Him that what we do is not right and we must acknowledge that we are wrong. In doing so He will “forgive us and purity us from all wrongdoings.” - 1 John 1:9
Adding on to that, we should not take advantage of God's forgiveness. What that means is not to sin and sin just for the fact that He will forgive us. See God is just in His reasoning for what He calls sins. He knows that sins not only take us away from Him but also
-Rob us of our joy
-Rob us of our peace
-Gives us anxiety
He doesn’t just call things sin for His sake but for our sake. God is a loving Father who endures great pain for us. Yet He knew that sin will tear us to pieces and because of that He died for us. God wouldn’t have died for our sins if they didn’t do anything. Sin is something that we should stay away from. Yes, one may say it’s natural we are only humans. Yet colds are natural but that doesn’t mean that we should try to catch them. He doesn’t want us to sin. He wants us to run from sin.
