Abide in Him and Take Refuge
Updated: Jul 1, 2022
"I am the Vine
you are the branches
abide in Me,
and you will produce many fruits."
John 15:5
"Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest"
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection."
Pslams 91:1-4
In life, we will be faced with the storms and trials of this world. Waves of sadness will crash on us. Hurricanes of chaos will roam around us. Earthquakes and uncertainty will shake us yet with God, nothing will overcome us. When disasters happen we take refuge in strong shelters. So when disasters such as anxiety, depression, sickness, or loss happen, we should take shelter in God.
Psalms 91 talks about how God is our hiding place. If we abide in Him we will not be overcome. Instead, we will find safety in Him, and in doing so we will find a peace everlasting. Even in
Philippians, we see that Paul finds peace while in prison! How mighty is our God that He gives us peace in the chaos! Again and again, God says to abide in Him when things go wrong yet so many times we reject Him. We try to find refuge in the things of the world yet time and time again we see that the shelter the earth provides is weak. It withers away. Aiding in it is as "meaningless as chasing the wind," Ecclesiastes 1:14. Yet if we abide in God we are found with a shelter on solid ground, nothing can overcome it. His love wraps around us like feathers. He holds us in them as a bird does to their young. He protects us from the things of this Earth. Being our refuge through it all. God bless <3
1 Those who live in the shelter of the Highest
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
3 For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
7Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
8Just open your eyes
and see how the wicked are punished.
9 If you make the Lord your refuge
if you make the Highest your shelter,
10no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.
11 For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
12 They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
13You will trample upon lions and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
16I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.”

Not only are we called to abide in Him during the trials and storms, but we are called to abide in Him ALWAYS. When times are good and even when they seem like they couldn’t be better, abide in Christ. In fact, those times should make us want to abide in Him more! Yet so many times when we are feeling good we just take pleasure in ourselves rather than taking pleasure in the Word of God. I think if the song, the Upside of Down, by Chris August. In it, he sings about how when things are going good and he’s feeling a million miles from miserable it always seems to be about him, yet when he does feel…
